International Trani Tango

Trani has a special connection with Astor Piazzolla, the great Argentine tango composer, through his family roots. In 1954, Piazzolla visited the city to see the house of his grandfather Pantaleone, a native of Trani who emigrated to Argentina. This return to his origins became a source of emotional and cultural inspiration for him.

The bond between Trani and Argentina was strengthened in 2020 with the visit of Laura Escalada, Piazzolla’s wife and an honorary citizen of Trani, and in 2023 with the visit of his grandson Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla, confirming a lasting cultural partnership in the name of the great master of tango.
